Jump in patient volume stretches nursing staff, leads to hiring
Female breadwinners reflect a dramatic social shift (Journal-News)
The recession has left hundreds of thousands of men unemployed while their wives and girlfriends have been forced to pick up the slack as the primary breadwinners in their households. Dozens of nurses at Sacred Heart Medical Center were either laid off or reassigned Monday as part of a "workforce reduction." According to a statement from Sacred Heart, the hospital is beginning the process of reassigning the nurses based on seniority.
