VA study shows surgery checklist saves lives

A new study finds the use of checklists in operating rooms saves lives. Researchers looked at surgeries at 74 Veterans Affairs hospitals over three years and deaths dropped 18 percent on average when surgical teams ran through the checklists before, during and after procedures.
More than 17,000 doctors and other healthcare providers have taken money from seven major drug companies to talk to other doctors about their products, a joint investigation by news organizations and non-profit groups found.
