Monterey hospital to lay off 43 people Thursday

Nearly four dozen people who work at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula will be losing their jobs Thursday.

TRIBUTES have been paid to an Essex University professor who has died, aged 63. Kimmy Eldridge, who set up the Nursing and Health Studies Unit at the university, died suddenly at Colchester General Hospital after suffering a brain haemorrhage.
Dr. Elisabeth Simms is being recognized Oct. 30 as Capital Hospice's '2010 Passion for Caring Honoree.' She is considered a 'founding mother' of hospice care in the United States.
