A health care industry veteran has agreed to lead the state's foremost advocate for nursing job creation.
The snow is adding to the winter pressures on the NHS, causing staff shortages, record calls to ambulance services and dwindling blood supplies.
New York City has settled a lawsuit with an Orthodox Jewish nurse who was denied a job at a city hospital because she couldn't work on the Sabbath.
When Lisa Bratton-Henry graduated from the Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing in 1986 as a registered nurse at age 19, she had no idea nurses could be "doctors." "Never in a million years," she said.
A city hospital has been told to improve infection control as a "matter of urgency". Inspectors found problems at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee including poor hand hygiene, a lack of alcohol gel and overflowing linen bags.
