A NURSE branded "incompetent and inexperienced" had been suspended from her job for numerous errors before taking care of a man who died as a result of a ventilator being switched off, an inquest heard.

A claim by the Royal College of Nursing that a "reckless policy" of job cuts has left the NHS with thousands fewer senior nursing posts, has been denied by Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The acute stroke unit, acute medical unit and Avon 3 are closed, but all other wards as well as Kidderminster Hospital and Redditch's Alexandra Hospital are now open as normal.

"The hospital had a concern about the constant noise and vibration so they chose to go the implosion route," David Vinser of Vincer Construction explains.

Professor Sir Mike Richards, England's chief inspector of hospitals, is holding a listening evening to hear views on the trust as part of a radical new inspection process.
