Union for Halifax nurses says conciliation talks break down over ratio issue (8 stories)

The union representing nurses employed by Nova Scotia's Capital District Health Authority says conciliation talks have broken down after one day at the table.

Crowds turned out to see 6-year-old cancer patient Joey Mausser flick the switch and bring the former Iowa Medical School of Nursing crashing down to earth at 7 a.m. CNN reports that the demolition of the building , which had been used as extra office space for the Iowa Methodist Hospital since 1998, had been planned for weeks.

Almost 4,000 NHS staff who have been made redundant in the last four years have since been re-employed by the health service.

Bosses at the Chesterfield hospital insist the closure is only temporary - but were this week unable to confirm when the ward will reopen.
